Sip your coffee in peace, with a specialized gender therapist to guide you with warmth, respect, and zero gatekeeping.
The Mind Parlor’s primary specialty is Gender Identity Therapy-- EVERY single one of our therapists specializes in Gender Affirming Therapy, and we’ve been doing it for over 15 years.
Most counseling practices have one Gender Identity Therapist for the entire practice… if you’re lucky to find one at all. Here, Gender diversity is placed FIRST, meaning every counselor has advanced experience and training in therapy for gender identity before anything else.
This leaves you with the freedom to select the therapist who specializes in your unique area of need, just like any other heteronormative client always has the privilege to do.
Also need a therapist who specializes in Adult ADHD? Body Image? Social Anxiety? People-Pleasing? Someone who works with Transpeople of Color? We’ve got you covered!
At The Mind Parlor, you will NOT be gatekept from your gender affirming medical care.
You will not be judged, shamed, interrogated, asked to prove yourself, forced to jump through hoops to get a letter of recommendation, or told you should be anything but who you authentically are.
We are proud and honored to welcome you to our cozy urban home, just as you are.

Why Gender Identity Matters in Texas
In Texas—and even here in Dallas—trans and non-binary folks face some very unique uphill battles: misgendering & discrimination at clinics, crippling anxiety about going to the bathroom in public, insurance that won't cover gender care, and the constant weight of prejudice, or worse. Facing those hurdles on top of your own identity journey? That takes real strength—and a verified safe place to land.
No one, including your therapist, has the right to tell you who you are. Nor is anyone other than yourself capable of knowing what you truly feel inside your own brain and body. We’ll help you sort through all that internal information and find a path that best balances your personal life, current relationships, religion, work, and cultural identity with your authentic self.
With Gender Neutral Bathrooms and a full staff of Gender Affirming Counselors, you can trust that the only thing you have to worry about at The Mind Parlor is how you take your coffee.

Transgender Therapy For Texans

Do you think you may be transgender or have symptoms of Gender Dysphoria? Are you considering medical or social transition?
Here are some common phases and questions our transgender clients experience before coming to gender therapy. Regardless of which phase you may fall into, your gender identity therapist at The Mind Parlor can help you sort it out.
-
Exploring Phase: People who recognize something might be “off” and can’t pin-point it.
Am I gay? Do I have a “cross-dressing fetish”? Or is it possible that I might be transgender?? How would this even work with my religion, family, or work?
-
Awareness Phase: Those who are aware of their gender identity but are trying to figure out what comes next.
Does this mean I need to tell my family? Do I want to medically transition? If so, which procedures do I get? What is the process? How do I find the right doctor?
-
Final Decision Phase: Those who are well aware of their gender identity and what they want to do about it, but need assistance in pursuing the steps and facing what they may not know is coming around the corner.
Apparently I need a letter for Hormone Replacement Therapy in Texas?! Who are the best gender affirming surgeons in Dallas? Did you know your gender dysphoria will evolve and change? What’s this new “trigger”? Why was my genetalia not causing me distress until recently? Before I was sure of my sexual orientation and now… am I starting to be attracted to a different gender?
-
Post Transition Phase: Those who are well into their medical and social transition, sometimes for many years, but are now experiencing surprising new symptoms of dysphoria or new social triggers from being perceived as their authentic gender. Or maybe they’ve made peace with all that and are simply dealing with the “typical” challenges that most people deal with when going to therapy (body image, social anxiety, co-dependency & boundary setting, etc.).
Okay, I’m a man and finally everyone is gendering me properly, but wait… now women are afraid of me? My partner and I just had a baby, but now my dysphoria is back because I can’t naturally breast feed my baby? I’m living my best authentic life, yay! But what is up with me being constantly attracted to narcissists?? The beauty standards for cis women are messed up enough, but how to I deal with the added pressure to overcompensate being transfem?

Therapy For Gender Dysphoria in Texas
This ain’t our first rodeo. We’ve had literally thousands of sessions over more than 15 years with transgender and non-binary clients in Texas and the DFW Area. Which means, luckily for you, that we can quite accurately predict what is around the corner on your journey.
In addition to what you are already aware of, our gender therapists in Dallas can help you with all the things you may not realize are bothering you or that you have not faced yet in your journey. Such as:
Evolving Gender Dysphoria Symptoms
A little-known fact amongst the transgender community is that your Gender Dysphoria can and will change. As you continue further down your personal path, you will notice that your symptoms and “triggers” will likely evolve as you stumble upon new circumstances and experience your social community responding differently to you as a result of your gender expression.
At The Mind Parlor, our specialized Gender Therapy offers you tips about what may lie ahead and how to prepare for it.
Unhealthy Gender Norms & Stereotypes
Unhealthy beauty standards often lead women in general to hyper-fixate on their appearance or even develop body image issues. This is especially true for transwomen since they often feel the need to overcompensate in a world where cis-gender women are placed on a pedestal while transwomen are mocked and bullied by the media.
It’s crucial to learn how to navigate these unhealthy standards of beauty and avoid forcing yourself into a hyper-feminine or hyper-masculine state of gender expression that isn’t authentically you. Otherwise, you could create additional mental health and emotional problems on top of the already painful Gender Dysphoria. This is part of what truly specialized Gender Identity Therapy can offer you.
Learn to break down the difference between gender identity, gender expression, gender social norms or roles, and understand where the real you fits in to all of that.
Co-Existing Emotional Struggles
You’re human which means gender is only one part of your identity and is not all-inclusive of the other challenges you face.
At The Mind Parlor, Gender Diversity is placed FIRST, meaning EVERY counselor has advanced experience and training in therapy for gender identity before anything else. This leaves you the ability to select the therapist who specializes in your unique area of need, just like any other heteronormative client always has the privilege to do.
Also need a gender therapist who specializes in Adult ADHD? Body Image? Social Anxiety? People Pleasing? Someone who works with Transpeople of Color? We’ve got you covered! Send us an inquiry with your specific goals and we will match you with the counselor who best fits your particular needs.
The Internal Transphobia You Didn't Know Was There
Are you holding cisgender people in your mind as the “model” to aim for in behavior, gender expression, etc.? This is a subtle way in which transphobia can rear its ugly head. Depending on the specifics, it could be a sign that you may still be thinking from and glorifying a heteronormative perspective rather than honoring the beautiful spectrum of rainbow color that actually exists in our world. We know this is a complicated one to chew on… let our gender experts help you sort that out.
Sexual Orientation Exploration
You may already know that sexual orientation and gender identity are two entirely separate things and are not correlated—meaning being “transgender” doesn’t make you “gay” and vice versa. However, it’s not uncommon for some clients to stumble upon new questions regarding their sexual identity after medical or social transition. There are a few psychosocial reasons for this but… we’ll leave those explanations for you and your gender therapist at The Mind Parlor to discuss in session.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you write me a letter for HRT or Gender Affirming Surgery?
Piece of cake! We’ve been doing this for over 15 years—we know all the top gender affirming doctors in Dallas and we know exactly what they need. Plus, we know the particular way to write these letters to give you the best chance at having your gender transition covered by insurance. Let’s get started on your gender affirming medical transition!
What If My Therapist Doesn’t Believe I’m Trans?
No one, including your therapist, has the right to tell you who you are. Nor is anyone other than yourself capable of knowing what you truly feel inside your own brain and body. And if you currently have a therapist doing this, FIRE them and hire us.
How Much Does Therapy For Gender Dysphoria Cost?
We have counselors at different price points based on their experience levels, ranging from $65-165 per session. We’ll match you with the specialist who best fits your unique needs given your emotional goals and budget.
Will Insurance Cover My Gender Therapy or Transition?
It depends on the insurance plan. Unfortunately, in the US (& especially in the south), mental health care in general is not covered equally to medical care by insurance companies. Gender Affirming care is even less likely to be covered due to the high stigma and recent anti-trans legislation.
However, at The Mind Parlor, we know the tricks of the trade to give you the best chance to receive maximum reimbursement with your insurance. Just let us know you wish to file for reimbursement with insurance, and we will add the appropriate codes to your file and give you the ready-made receipts with everything your insurance company will need to pay you back!
Do You Have Gender Neutral Bathrooms?
Yes, yes, yes!! We have not one, but two gender neutral bathrooms in the building. Plus, every single staff member at The Mind Parlor is not only accepting, but genuinely celebratory of the transgender, non-binary, & LGBTQIA+ community. You will always be accepted and safe in our cozy space.
Is It Safe To Visit Your Office In Person If I Don’t “Pass”?
Absolutely. Most clients beginning therapy for gender identity are still exploring and experimenting with their gender expression, and many of them have insecurities around “passing”. The Mind Parlor has purposely chosen to exclusively hire staff who have both personal and professional experience in the LGBTQIA+ community, specialized professional training in Gender Identity, and are passionate and celebratory of working with transgender and non-binary clients.
No matter what you look like or where you are on your journey, we would LOVE to have you in our home. Plus – there’s a security guard in the building for anyone who wants a bit of extra reassurance or even a friendly escort through the parking lot.
Can You Help Me Find a Surgeon or HRT Doctor in Dallas or in Texas?
This ain’t our first rodeo! The Mind Parlor has close relationships with the top gender surgeons, HRT docs, voice coaches, and more in Dallas and throughout the state of Texas. We will provide you with our exclusive gender resources list, prepare & send the necessary documentation, and collaborate directly on your behalf.
How Long Does Gender Therapy Take?
The results you see from therapy largely depend on each client’s personal participation, openness, & willingness to implement the new changes which better match their desired life goals. In other words, you will get out of therapy what you choose to put in towards your emotional growth.
What we can promise is this: Because we are a team of specialists rather than a team of “I-work-with-everything” therapists, we will get you in and out of therapy in the most efficient and affordable way possible! Pinky swear.
Can I Schedule Online Sessions If It Works Better With My Schedule or If I’m Too Afraid?
Definitely! We offer both in person sessions in Dallas, Texas and online counseling throughout the state of Texas. As long as you are within the state of Texas, we will gladly offer you virtual therapy and we’ve found it to be just as effective as in person counseling.
How Do I Keep My Decision to Go to Therapy Private If I Have Roommates or Live With Family?
Your therapy sessions are entirely confidential and protected by HIPAA. Your therapist cannot confirm or deny to anyone that you are a client of The Mind Parlor if you are an adult. Many of our clients who live with roommates or family choose to come in person to our Dallas office or have virtual therapy sessions from their car or a private and confidential co-working room or conference room where they won’t be disturbed.
“Coming out” to friends, family, or work is a very delicate and important process and is totally up to the individual to decide when they are ready to share this information. People who struggle with Gender Identity or Gender Dysphoria often also have a variety of other emotional challenges including social anxiety, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, depression, suicidal thoughts, body image issues, difficulty functioning at school or work, stress management problems, and more.
Some clients choose to share any of these other symptoms or emotional struggles with their friends or family while they are taking time to prepare themselves for bigger conversations like “coming out” which may come later. Emotional struggles are very personal and what you choose to share with others is totally up to you, in your own time.
Do You Work With Gender Curious Children or Teens?
Yes we do! We currently work with transgender, non-binary, and gender curious adolescents and teens in person in Dallas or online anywhere in the state of Texas. If you’re looking for a gender identity specialist who works with younger kiddos (12y/o or younger), send us an inquiry anyway and we will be happy to provide you with an out-of-house referral to our most trusted gender therapists who work with that age group.
Is It True That A Gender Identity Therapist Will Just Confirm I Have Gender Dysphoria And Then Tell Me What To Do?
Therapists at The Mind Parlor will always be objective and unbiased; we are not “looking to prove” any particular mental health diagnosis exists, we are simply here to be curious and help you explore what you’re struggling with. The purpose of therapy is to help you further discover yourself and build insight and awareness about your identity, feelings, needs, and coping skills that are or are not functioning well for you.
Your therapist will help you explore these things to help you determine if you have Gender Dysphoria and/or rule out other mental health related issues which may be causing those symptoms. Based on our specialized training in Gender Identity and other mental health issues, we can offer professional guidance and psychoeducation, but your therapist should never be giving you specific advice on what to do in your life—that’s totally up to you.
For Teens - How Do I Ask My Parents To Take Me To a Gender Specialist Without “Outing” Myself?
“Coming out” to friends, family, or work is a very delicate and important process and is totally up to the individual to decide when they are ready to share this information. While The Mind Parlor is well known for our work in Gender Identity in Dallas, we also treat many other mental health concerns. For example, people who struggle with Gender Identity or Gender Dysphoria often also have a variety of other emotional challenges including social anxiety, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, depression, suicidal thoughts, body image issues, difficulty functioning at school or work, stress management problems, and more.
Some clients choose to share any of these other symptoms or emotional struggles with their friends or family while they are taking time to prepare themselves for bigger conversations like “coming out” which may come later. Emotional struggles are very personal and what you choose to share with others is totally up to you, in your own time.
At The Mind Parlor, we’re not just therapists—we’re people who genuinely care and want better for the world.
We’re your partners in growth and here to help you embrace your identity and feel confident. Let’s start this journey together.
